Multi-skilled mechanic

Job profile

Multi-skilled mechanics are responsible for manufacturing workpieces and equipment for production processes. They operate lathes and milling machines, set CNC machines and supervise the production process, take machines into service and carry out maintenance procedures.

Multi-skilled mechanics manufacture workpieces, equipment, moulds and tools for production. From single components to entire production lines, these are all manufactured according to design drawings that are generally drafted by construction designers. While these can be made from different materials, they are generally made from metal.

For manufacturing simple structural components, multi-skilled mechanics will compile their own material. Using this data, they can program computer-controlled CNC machines or set up lathes, milling machines, drills and grinding machines. They run test trials, check the result and correct the settings if required. At the end of the production process, they examine the workpieces for compliance with specified quality requirements.

Multi-skilled mechanics discuss new orders in teams. In some cases, they can develop their own design solutions. These take into account economic aspects. They also take part in production planning processes.
