The western European plastics industry is one of the most important economic factors in the European market. The cornerstones of the plastics industries are machine engineering, which accounts for 6% of the overall sales in this segment, plastics production (29%) and plastics processing (65%).

About one quarter of all plastic parts and articles produced worldwide are made in Western Europe. The largest consumers in Europe are the packaging industry (33%), followed by building and construction with 21 %. The automotive industry uses 8%, while E+E accounts for 7 % of the overall consumption.
